Geological relevance of location
Mostly Cretaceous rocks occur below the Pleistocene deposits. When the subway was dug in Oberricklingen in Hannover, however, fossil-rich Middle Jurassic rocks were found. The marine sediment contains shells of the almost spherical ammonite Macrocephalus, some forms of which are as large as a human head.
