Geological relevance of location
At the end of the relatively warm Pliocene period, white kaolin sand was deposited in northern Germany. The sand is a product of erosion of a thick weathering crust formed in a warm, humid climate. The feldspar grains in the sand are partially altered to the clay mineral kaolin.
