Political relevance of location
The groundwater reservoir kept in the Colbitz Letzlingen heath ensures the water supply of more than 600.000 people. The extent and possible effects of anthropogenic influences on the groundwater were investigated and a long-term monitoring programme installed. The sample which indicates a soil contamination stems from strata below fuel tanks related to a former military training area.
