The Isle of Rügen was formerly inhabited by Slavs. 1168 Waldemar Ist of Denmark conquered the island, and since 1648 the island belonged to Sweden, since 1815 to Prussian, and since 1945 to Mecklenburg.

Geological relevance of location
This island is composed of several cores with connecting sand bars. The chalk cliff of Stubbenkammer with the \\\"Königsstuhl\\\" is the most distinguishing and beautiful mark of the Isle of Rügen.
