Geological relevance of location
The rock specimen contains fragments of bones and two coprolites (fossilized excrement) and originates from lake and/or river sediments in which some layers contain abundant vertebrate (mammal) remains. The main bone layer has been interpreted as the remains of a feeding place of carnivores, since abundant hyena coprolites and many bones with tooth marks on them have been found there. The sediments are evidence from several million years ago of the eternal struggle for life in an environment comparable with the African savanna of today.

Classification of the earth
Structure hardened sand and silt containing vertebrate remains (bones and teeth)
Colour reddish brown, greenish grey
Age Middle Miocene (early Serravallian),about 14 million years old
