Historical relevance of location
The autobahn cut near Uppen passes through Upper Jurassic rocks at the north edge of the Lower Saxony mountains. Where the sound of surf was heard 160 million years ago, the roar of automobile traffic has prevailed since 1960. (The oolitic limestone was deposited in the surf zone of the Jurassic sea.)
