Geological relevance of location
The Muschelkalk of the Germanic Triassic forms a typical landscape. It contains raw materials for making lime and cement. It is found in the valleys of the Main, Neckar, Saale, and Unstrut rivers. In southern Lower Saxony and norther Hesse, it is preserved in geological structures called grabens.
