New water supplies had to be found as a result of the division of Cyprus. Dams were built on Mt. Olympus for this purpose.
Geological relevance of location
This umber is a weathering product of the ultrabasic rocks of Mt. Olympus. These rocks are former oceanic crust that have weathered to umbra, which is used as a pigment.
