Name
Isle of Juist, Germany
Historical relevance of location
Relics of subrecent saltmarshes occur on the East Friesian barrier island of Juist. These horizons which were formed in the time span between 600 and 1700 AD were originally built in direct contact to the tidal flat on the landward side of the island. However, due to a landward migration of shoreline and coastal erosion, these horizons were covered by coastal dunes and are nowadays exposed at the beach on the seaward side of the island.
