Historical relevance of location
Digging of a drainage channel on the western banks of the river Weser yielded hints for the oldest human settlement in the coastal marshes of northern Germany. This settlement was founded in the younger bronze age on the natural surface of the marsh landscape. Subsequent rise of the sea level caused the inundation of the settlement and the deposition of 1.5 m of tidal sediments.
