Historical relevance of location
The cliffs at Bad Bentheim are a landmark in the border area with the Netherlands. They consist of a Lower Cretaceous sandstone and is used for buildings. Fossil shells and gastropods can be found in the sediments.
Geological relevance of location
Early Cretaceous time had a wet climate and was time of abundant sand and mud sedimentation in NW Europe.
